During my acute phase I enjoyed using Gaviscon very much. Many of you, that is, those affected by heartburn or silent reflux, already know this with great certainty.
Personally, it helped me great and I am also really happy to have discovered this drug. You can get it without a prescription at your pharmacy, where I have to say...if you suffer from silent reflux, you should definitely take the “Advance” variant. Many people buy the “dual” variant, which is not as effective with quiet reflux. This is because the Gaviscon Advance contains more alginate.
These alginates are obtained from brown algae.
Don't let the peppermint bother you either. Peppermint promotes reflux, but here it is only used as an aroma. That means for you you can take it without hesitation.
As far as I can tell, Gaviscon Advance has little or no side effects. I myself have not experienced any side effects at all. The ingredients are also not harmful to you, as the main ingredient has a natural base.
The base fluid is not like conventional anti-acid solutions. This means that the effect on lowering stomach acid is quite small compared to other fluid combinations. This effect provides a more natural stomach acid, so the stomach acid is not greatly suppressed and the nutrient intake and general digestion do not suffer from it.
Upon contact with the stomach acid, Gaviscon swells up and you get a gel-like protective barrier. This prevents the gaseous stomach acid from reaching the top. This protective barrier also prevents pepsins from getting high, which is a great advantage.
Taking Gaviscon “Advance” is also quite easy. Because this is taken either after meals, or before going to bed. If you want to take it after dinner, you should do it after 30 minutes. I myself only took it before going to bed, that was completely sufficient for me.
It is also important to know that you should not eat or drink for two to three hours after taking Gaviscon. In addition, the drug provides protection for three to four hours. The alginate contained therein is excreted from the body.
